About Bait Safe

Bait Safe is a family run business, dedicated to providing New Zealand conservationists with a effective method of possum pest control.

Our team prides itself on delivering a pest control solution made of only quality materials and manufactured right here in New Zealand. Our focus is to help a range of conservationists and community groups with their pest control projects and ultimately achieve their environmental goals.

The business originated through an observation and necessity for a pest control tool that specifically targets only pests. Early control work by Stuart Corliss, who was working for the Department of Conservation on Stewart Island targeting possums with traditional open bait stations, realised that the pest control tools they were using were inefficient and a lot of the hard work they were doing was in vein, due to rats devouring the bait before possums had a chance to take the bait.

Stuart's father, Phil Corliss saw the necessity for a better bait station after discussing with Stuart the difficulties he faced on Stewart Island. Phil put his mind to it and took on the challenge to design a bait station that could be operated by possums only.

Phil used his knowledge from a self-made career in the agricultural and environmental industry, formed by innovative ideas and solutions and took on the task of creating the Bait Safe bait station. With help from staff and end users in Department of Conservation, Regional Councils and pest control contractors and after many prototypes and testing the now Bait Safe offers a sustainable tool that is both highly effective and efficient.
